GHIO ROBERTO - VIGNETI PIEMONTEMARE

The Piemontemare Vineyards, owned by the Ghio winery, founded in 1881, extend, among terraces, streams and woods, over an area of about 45 hectares in the municipality of Bosio, the highest in the Gavi and Ovada area, the closest strip of land to the Ligurian Sea in the whole of Piedmont.

Here are superimposed the areas of three docg: Gavi, Ovada and Alta Langa.

From Bosio to the south, the ancient paths leading to the Capanne di Marcarolo Nature Park branch off: traditions of borderland, preserved with respect and love for the past.

To the north, the hillside vineyards, distributed in a relatively small area, offer great diversification, as is the great variety of the conformation of the territory, determined by a particular morphological and microclimatic condition. For this reason, even adjacent plots of land have profoundly different, unique and unrepeatable characteristics.

To the south, instead, is the Cascina Menta complex, located in the heart of the Capanne di Marcarolo park, a naturalistic site of Community interest. The buildings of 1600, already owned by the patrician Genoese family of the Centurions, are known to have been the scene of several events related to the Resistance during the Second World War, so as to have been partly burned in retaliation by the Nazi-Fascist forces. The surrounding land extends over an area of about 23 Ha, around 800 meters above sea level, of which 2 are planted with vines. The plant therefore has two records: it is the highest vineyard in southern Piedmont and the closest to the sea in the region.
