This proposal allows a first approach to the production and winemaking philosophy of the sassotondo winery: a family-run business, set in an environment marked by volcanic tuff, in a powerful and mysterious Etruscan Maremma.
1. After visiting the underground wine cellar, we will explain our choices in ecological vineyard management and taste historical wines of the winery together.
2. Four wines, among the most representative ones, will be presented for tasting: the white (but not too much) Isolina, the rosé Lady Marmalade (for "decisive" young ladies), Sassotondo Rosso (our daily classic ciliegiolo), the gloomy Ombra Blu (Tuscany with an outsider).
3. You will be guided through the tasting, which will be accompanied by bread and our EVO organic oilwith monocultivar Caninese olives.
4. The winery has been certified organic since 1994 and we are part of the VolcanicWines circuit and we are members of FIVI - Independent Winegrowers.
When you come to visit us, get ready for a trip to the countryside, immersed in the nature of rural Tuscia. Everything revolves around wine and the vineyard, so we recommend comfortable clothing. Tastings are held, depending on weather conditions, under our patio or in the air-conditioned tasting room.

Conducted with organic farming methods, Sassotondo is the typical farm of this "marginal" area of the Tuscan Maremma where, in addition to permanent crops (vines and olives) there are arable crops, pastures, woods, interspersed with deep gorges carved into the tuff by inconstant streams.
The 72 hectares are located between Sorano and Pitigliano. Vineyards occupy about 12 hectares: 8 red grapes (Ciliegiolo, Sangiovese and Merlot) and 4 white grapes (Trebbiano, Greco, Sauvignon). Ciliegiolo, historical grape of Maremma, has found in the old vineyard of San Lorenzo, in front of the breathtaking view of Pitigliano, its ideal terroir. Sassotondo has a spectacular underground cellar, completely dug in the tuff. Sassotondo's wines are the expression of this powerful and mysterious territory: the autochthonous vines and an environment in some ways extreme, with tuff that emerges everywhere, produce fine and elegant wines, naturally concentrated, sapid and spicy.
