Conducted with organic farming methods, Sassotondo is the typical farm of this "marginal" area of the Tuscan Maremma where, in addition to permanent crops (vines and olives) there are arable crops, pastures, woods, interspersed with deep gorges carved into the tuff by inconstant streams.
The 72 hectares are located between Sorano and Pitigliano. Vineyards occupy about 12 hectares: 8 red grapes (Ciliegiolo, Sangiovese and Merlot) and 4 white grapes (Trebbiano, Greco, Sauvignon). Ciliegiolo, historical grape of Maremma, has found in the old vineyard of San Lorenzo, in front of the breathtaking view of Pitigliano, its ideal terroir. Sassotondo has a spectacular underground cellar, completely dug in the tuff. Sassotondo's wines are the expression of this powerful and mysterious territory: the autochthonous vines and an environment in some ways extreme, with tuff that emerges everywhere, produce fine and elegant wines, naturally concentrated, sapid and spicy.
