THE WINES OF MONFERRATO PLUS

Tenuta Santa Caterina is located in Piedmont, in Grazzano Badoglio, among the hills of Monferrato Astigiano, an area which has been recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The winery boasts a past rich in history which founds its origins in 961, when Marquis Aleramo decided to plan the abbey and to assign it to the Benedictine orders. During the centuries its property passed through different families who transformed the identity of Santa Caterina in a real agricultural estate. After a period of decay in the year 2000 the estate was bought by the Alleva family, who provided for the conservative restoration, keeping its history and landscape unaltered.

Philosophy and eco-sustainability

The choice of Tenuta Santa Caterina's vines was conditioned by the discovery of a soil with a substratum of marine origin, in order to exalt at best the characteristics of that uncontaminated territory rich in history. One of the biggest challenges the winery has undertaken is the renunciation of chemical protection in favor of eco-sustainability and a close bond with nature. Thus in the guyot or spurred cordon systems a symbiosis between the vines and the roots has been created with organic consortia, capable of establishing the perfect union between soil and vegetation. All white and red wines produced in Tenuta Santa Caterina come from autochthonous vines such as Grignolino, Freisa, Barbera, Nebbiolo, and international vines which have always been present in the territory, such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. They are conceived with their own identity, aimed at exalting the bond with the lands of Monferrato and aiming at excellence.
