The Village
The origins of Borgo Antico S.Vitale date back to the Early Middle Ages, when Borgonato appeared in an imperial diploma in 879. The main characteristic of the complex is that it is made up of buildings of epochs (from the ninth to the eighteenth century) and types (a church with rectory, a medieval palace, a farmhouse) that over time have joined together in a set of high historical and architectural value.
The village has been the subject of archaeological research and careful restoration work that lasted about 10 years, using traditional techniques and materials (stone, brick, wood), has allowed us to regain its ancient image and the evocative atmosphere of the seventeenth century.
An artisan distillery has also been set up, the site of a didactic experience trail dedicated to brandy and distillation, with authentic historical finds, avant-garde equipment, reconstructions, illustrations and videos.
The Distillery
In the complex of S. Vitale centuries of history have followed one another, which today are relived not only in the characteristic historical buildings, but also in the new, evocative artisan distillery, where it is possible to watch the process of distillation.
It is a meeting point of ancient traditions, craftsmanship and modern cultural and research paths, home to modern distillation equipment and an exhibition of ancient stills. The large cellar, characterized by a vaulted ceiling on columns, for the aging of grappa in oak barrels, completes the alchemical atmosphere of this precious place.
